![]() Located 15 miles south of Uxmal, Kabah is the second largest ruin of the Puuc region after Uxmal. The most famous structure is the "Palace of the Masks", the facade is decorated with hundreds of stone masks of the rain god "Chaac". They worshiped Chaac to protect the harvest throughout the Puuc region. There are no cenotes in this part of the Yucatan so they had to depend solely on rain. While most certainly subordinate to its northern neighbor, Kabah was not a minor city; it was an important location in its own right, and surprise today's visitors with its own special ambiance. Labna, Sayil, Kabah and the Caves of Loltun are a great additions when visiting Uxmal. To fully enjoy the Puuc region consider spending a couple of nights at The Hacienda Uxmal or the Lodge at Uxmal. |
